Visitor Information

Nestled between two major river valleys in South-central Alaska, the Chugiak-Eagle River area is surrounded by the breathtaking wilderness of Alaska. Known statewide as the gateway to Chugach State Park—495,000 acres of rugged, untouched terrain—it is home to diverse wildlife, including brown and black bears, moose, wolves, wolverines, lynx, foxes, porcupines, beavers, spawning salmon, and an array of birds, including the iconic Bald Eagle. This community offers a unique blend of a vibrant lifestyle with proximity to urban areas, while also providing residents and visitors the experience of pristine wilderness on the edge of the Last Frontier.

Downtown Eagle River and the business districts of Chugiak and Peters Creek offer a variety of shops and services that cater to a high-quality lifestyle. While most essentials are available locally, Anchorage’s downtown, located just 12 miles to the south, offers additional options. The community is seamlessly connected to Anchorage by a modern, well-lit six-lane highway that traverses scenic military lands. To the north, approximately 20 miles away, lies the Mat-Su (Matanuska-Susitna) Borough, rich in adventure and home to Wasilla, one of Alaska’s fastest-growing areas.
