    About Us

Lions are our neighbors, teachers, moms, dads, brothers and sisters. They come from all walks of life and all share a commmon interest to aid ethose in our community who need help. The Heart of a Lion is not defined by who we are; rather by our desire to help people in our community and provide a place where all are welcome to join this effort. The Eagle River Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions Club (SLML) was founded in 1993 and has 43 life members, one past district governor and one current second vice-governor. The club members meet every first and third Monday of the month; the first meting is a social with two or three members providing lunch for the general membership meeting. During this time, guests introduce themselves adn share their interest in becoming a Lion. The second meeting of each month is a general membership meeting and Board of Director meeting to conduct business. Our members range in age from 18-75; and we represetna a large range of the American workforce in our Club.SLML's Foundation raises funds to support scholarships for local high school students seeking financial support for college. In addition the Club supports the Chugiak Eagle River Senior Center with a monthly Bingo game staffed by Club members who also provide treats for the monthly event.? SLML supports the ARCH Home, located in our community, and which provides drug and alcohol rehabilitation for youths. And, of course, Vision Screening is an important part of SLML Club. Providing vision screenings at schools and health fairs, the Club helps identify children who need assistance with vision treatment or glasses.SLML participates in Relay for Life, the Alaska State Fair (Vision Screenings), and the Tree of Giving, a service project held in December to provide melas to 75-100 families in the area.
