CHUGACH STATE PARK: This 495 thousand acre park makes it one of the four largest state parks in the United States. The park offers many extensive recreational opportunities with multiple access points in the Chugiak-Eagle River area. The famous Iditarod Trail traverses the park and meanders through Eagle River Valley. For those interested in glacier climbing, superb hiking, or canoeing, Eklutna Glacier and Lake provides excellent opportunities. Also contained within Chugach State Park is the Eagle River Greenbelt. This unique greenbelt is approximately 10 miles long and stretches from the Eagle River Campground near the Glenn Highway to the Eagle River Nature Center at Mile 12 on Eagle River Road bringing the Alaskan wilderness to our front door.

EAGLE RIVER CAMPGROUND (State) has camping sites for 50, as well as a developed day use area. This campground is located on the banks of Eagle River directly off the Glenn Highway. (Take the Hiland Road exit). There is a four day camping limit, latrines and flush toilettes, dump station and drinking water. For information on overnight stays contact www.lifetimeadventurers.net

EKLUTNA STATE CAMPGROUND (State) is located approximately 10 miles off the Glenn Highway in Chugach State Park on the shores of Eklutna Lake. (Take the Eklutna Exit). This scenic area provides excellent hiking and boating opportunities. The campground has 50 sites, drinking water, latrines, and a 15 day camping limit. Hiking trailheads in the area include: Twin Peaks, Lakeside and Bold Ridge.

MIRROR LAKE / EDMONDS LAKE (Municipal Park): Mirror Lake is located off the Glenn Highway to the north of Eagle River. The lake has a very popular picnicking beach with children's swings it also offers the opportunity for canoeing, small boating, and fishing. Two covered pavilions with barbeque grills are available for rental. The park provides a horseshoe pit and sand volley ball court. Mirror Lake is a winter trail head for Skijoring and summer hiking on the Edmonds/Mirror Lake trail.

BEACH LAKE (Municipal Park): Located in the Chugiak area off South Birchwood Loop this peaceful lake offers fishing, berry picking, cross country ski trails, hiking and is restricted to non-motorized use throughout the park. The largest municipal park in the area, Beach Lake is the home to the Chugiak Dog Mushers Association and over 16 miles of groomed sled dog trails. These trails host sled dog races most winter weekends. . Located on the banks of Beach Lake is Barrier Free Recreation's.

BARRIER FREE RECREATION , is located on the banks of Beach Lake and is a non-profit facility providing accessible outdoor recreational experiences. Facilities at the 80 acre Barrier Free site include a wilderness lodge, two small cabins, restrooms, and a floating fishing dock, all wheelchair accessible and interconnected by a series of ramps. The facility now provides an on-site caretaker and cabins are available for public use by calling 907-688-5571.

BIRCHWOOD CAMP, is a private multi-use facility, available for retreats and meetings surrounded by Beach Lake Park and located on Psalm Lake. For information and facility reservations call (907)688-2734.Visit their web site...: http://www.birchwoodcamp.org/

LIONS CLUB PARK EAGLE RIVER LIONS CLUB PARK : This park was developed for public use by the Eagle River Lions Club and the Municipality of Anchorage with grants from the State of Alaska. Located at mile 1.5 on Eagle River Road, the park offers children's playground equipment and covered picnic areas. Six baseball diamonds, four tennis courts, a basketball court and horseshoe pits are maintained for use by the general public. The Lions Club House has wonderful banquet facilities and is available to rent for special events. (694-9123).

CHIEF ALEX PARK : is located adjacent to Eagle River Elementary School at the entrance to downtown Eagle River. It is a pocket park with summer flower gardens and picnic tables available for public use. Chief Alex Park was developed through State grants and is maintained by the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce. Come see our Community Town Clock and Commemorative Brick Garden!

SPIRIT PARK (Municipal Park) is located on Elk Horn Circle off Hiland Road, in the South Fork Valley of Eagle River. The park offers a variety of children's play equipment, basketball court, a pavilion, picnic tables and is in close proximity to the picturesque South Fork Falls. PALOS VERDES PARK : (Municipal Park) located on Palos Verdes Street in Meadow Creek Subdivision, this pocket park has a variety of playground equipment to accommodate children of all ages. The area is fenced in to help secure toddlers.

PETERS CREEK PARK : (Municipal Park) is located on scenic Peters Creek and is a popular day use area with picnicking and nature trails catering to hiking, horseback riding and dog mushing. The park hosts a disc golf course and is a popular setting for outdoor weddings. To reserve the park, call 694-2011.

LORETTA FRENCH PARK : (Municipal Park) is located at 19300 Old Glenn Highway (near Peters Creek) and is home to the Loretta French Equestrian Center. In addition, the park offers riding and hiking trails and berry picking The Cook Inlet Archers have created a natural environment archery range in the southwest portion of the park. To access the range the public is asked to contact the club at www.cookinletarchers.com Loretta French Park is the home of the first ball field complex to be developed by the Chugiak-Eagle River Parks and Recreation Department. HILLCREST : (Municipal Park) is a neighborhood park located at the corner of Hillcrest Lane and Eagle River Road. The park offers picnic tables, a variety of children's play equipment, picnic benches, is ADA accessible and completely fenced for children's safety.

CHUGIAK BENEFIT ASSOCIATION BALL FIELD AND TOT PARK : is located off the Old Glenn Highway. The Chugiak Benefit Association, incorporated in 1954 to further community development by benefiting civic, welfare and social groups of the Chugiak-Eagle River area, has developed a ball field, basketball courts and a community center for use by the general public. EAGLE RIVER TOWN SQUARE & EAGLE RIVER COMMONS : (Municipal Facility) Town Square is located on Business Boulevard across from the Valley River Center Mall in downtown Eagle River and is open for public use. The park offers a gazebo shelter, picnic tables, winter ice skating, and is landscaped with flower gardens and lawns to make a scenic picnic area. Eagle River Commons adjoins Town Square and is an 8 acre park with paved paths, playground equipment, open space and amphitheater. For reservations please call: 694-2011.

BIRCHWOOD RECREATION AND SHOOTING PARK : Located off the Glenn Highway behind Birchwood Airport, this facility is open to the public for trap and skeet shooting, and offers rifle, pistol and archery ranges. Schedule: Rifle & Pistol - Wed. through Fri. 11 am - 7pm, Sat. and Sun. 10 am - 6 pm. Trap, Skeet & Sporting Clay - Tues. through Thur. 3 pm - 10 pm, Fri. 5 pm - 10 pm. Sat. & Sun. 10 am - 6 pm. SCHROEDER PARK : (Municipal Facility) Six acres of wooded area provide established walking and jogging trails, horseshoe pits, covered pavilion, disk golf, picnic tables, playground equipment, tennis and basketball courts and grassed playing field. For private picnics, reservations for using the covered pavilion can be obtained by calling the Parks and Recreation office at 694-2011. No motorized vehicles allowed in the park.

TURNER PARK : (Municipal Facility) is located between Regency Drive and Farm Avenue on Winter Park, just a short walk from downtown Eagle River. The park has playground equipment and landscaping, picnic area and flower beds and is an attractive addition to the neighborhood.

TARGHEE PARK : (Municipal Facility) is a fenced playground with picnic area located in the Eagle Glenn Subdivision on Targhee Loop.

HARRY J. MCDONALD MEMORIAL CENTER : (Municipal Facility) This facility provides a year round indoor ice arena, community room, and a walking/jogging track. This is a fee facility with special rates for seniors. A free outdoor fitness trail is available adjacent to the Harry J. McDonald Memorial Center parking area. OBERG PARK : (Municipal Facility) is located on Oberg Road on Dallon Ct. in Peter's Creek. The park provides a covered picnic area, swings and ball field. To schedule at this facility call: 694-2011.

RUSSELL'S FIELD : (Municipal Park) This park provides 3 dedicated soccer fields in the Chugiak-Eagle River area. The park also provides ADA accessible play equipment, basket ball court and a covered picnic area. The pavilion can be reserved by calling 694-2011

MARIANNA KOEHLER MEMORIAL PARK : (Municipal Park) is located on the Old Glenn Highway and Hilltop Drive in Peter's Creek. This is a small roadside pocket park with beautiful flower beds and impressive eagles. A sculptured iron eagle overlooks the park, and the Koehler Family donated a wonderful marble and bronze eagle sculpture in memory of their mother Marianna. The park is the final destination when bicycling via the Anchorage to Chugiak bike trail that follows along the New Glenn Highway north toward Palmer.

GLEN EAGLE PARK (SUNLOFT) : This is a quiet pocket park with a fenced basketball and toddler play equipment. It is located off Eagle River Road at the corner of Sunloft Drive and Sunny Glen Drive.
